Wain Rocks, Saanich Inlet, Vancouver Island, Canada

People do not usually associate scuba diving with Canada; however, my country definitely has some pretty awesome dive spots and even some world renowned ones!  Canada has somewhere around 3 million lakes.  That is 60% of the world’s lakes in total!  Now that’s a lot of opportunity for scuba!  Canada is also home to the The Great Lakes, which is the largest system of fresh, surface water on earth with Lake Superior being the second largest lake in the world.  I have yet to dive Superior, but the few times I’ve been next to it, I am in awe at its 83 000km2/32 000m2  size and up to 406m/1332ft deep.  Yes, Canada has an endless supply of lake and river diving, but let’s not forget two oceans to discover!  The Atlantic Ocean touches Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island on the east and the Pacific Ocean shoulders up next to British Columbia and the Yukon on the west.  I’d love to hear from anyone about east coast diving, but as for the west coast, I’d say it’s some of the best diving I’ve ever done in my life!  Yes, it’s cold, but that makes it a challenge; yes, the lighting can be dim, but that renders it alluring.  But the most amazing thing about pacific northwest diving are the abundance (and size!!) of animals.  Everything is bigger here…
